Legendary Irish guitarist Rory Gallagher passed away twenty five years ago this Sunday, June 14. In honor of this milestone, Eagle Rocks, in conjunction with the Rory Gallager’s Facebook and Youtube pages, will stream his 1970 concert at The Isle of Wight. In addition there will be performances by Rory’s former band mates, Band of Friends; Davy Knowles, Laurence Jones, Dom Martin, Eamonn McCormack, Marcel Scherpenzeel, Mark S Black and Peter Donegan. The Rory Gallagher Tribute begins this Sunday at 12 PM (EST) with the Isle of Wight concert beginning at 3PM (EST) on the Eagle Rocks YouTube page.
Gallagher, of Ballyshannon along with Belfast-born Gary Moore and Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell are the only Irish-born guitarists to have made a name for themselves outside of Ireland. Gary Moore passed away suddenly in 2011 while Bell continues to play occasionally at special events commemorating Thin Lizzy and their frontman; Phil Lynott. Gallagher died while awaiting a liver transplant on June 14, 1995.
Be sure and check out the tribute. Rory was truly an unsung hero.
