Guitar player extraordinaire Joe Satriani has made backing tracks from three of his most popular albums available for musicians to play along with. Available for preorder and due to be released in November of this year, Joe Satriani’s “Stripped x Three” consists of “Backing tracks from “Shapeshifting,” “Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards” and “Is There Love in Space?” The tracks will come loaded onto a “Custom Die-Cast Chrome/Metal Guitar-Shaped USB Drive housed in a custom mini guitar case with textured vinyl exterior, real cloth interior, and metal snap hinges. Audio files will be provided in 44.1K / 16 Bit .wav (CD Quality) and MP3 320 kbps format.”
According to Joe: “This collection represents three albums of backing tracks released years apart from each other spanning 16 years: “Is There Love In Space” from 2004, “Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards” from 2010 and 2020’s “Shapeshifting.” Three remarkably different albums recorded and mixed in remarkably different locations. At the heart of it is my love for composing unique and moving music for the electric guitar. Each album project I undertake pushes me to discover new ways to write, play, produce and record. I love the journey as much as the end result. With this compilation of backing tracks you get to peak behind the curtain a bit and experience that journey as I built the songs in the studio. And, of course, you can play along!
-Joe”
Several artists such as Steve Vai, Bumblefoot, Phil Collen, Alyssa Day and Phil Campbell have released YouTube videos of themselves playing to the backing tracks from some of the songs. I’ve chosen a few of my favorites here:
Phil Collen – “1980”
Sammy Hagar – “Up in Flames”
Bumblefoot – “Gnaahh”
Preorders are being taken now.
