April 26, 2021 – Heart founding member and solo artist Nancy Wilson has released a video of her tribute to Eddie Van Halen, who died last October. The song: “4 Edward” is dedicated to the rocker, who Wilson gave an acoustic guitar to while on tour in the early 80s. It is one of the songs on Nancy’s new solo album; “You and Me.” Previously released as an audio track only, you can now watch the video Nancy Wilson’s tribute to EVH.
According to Wilson: “The song I wrote for Eddie was trying to mirror the song that I heard him write on the acoustic back in the ’80s when I gave him his — supposedly, it was his first acoustic guitar, which is hard to believe. And the next morning, at the crack of dawn, he called my hotel room and said, ‘Listen to this,’ and played me this beautiful piece of music that was almost classical in the introduction, and then it got kind of rock in the middle, and then it ended in a more classical style. For me, after he unfortunately, left us so recently, I thought, ‘Okay, well…’ Somebody asked me to do an instrumental: ‘If you’re gonna do a solo album, you’ve gotta do an instrumental.’ So then I said, ‘Okay. I will do it, and I will dedicate it to Edward Van Halen,'”

Wilson, who with her sister Ann, co-founded Heart in Canada the early seventies along with fellow Americans Roger Fisher, Steve Fossen and Brian Johnstone. Their career took off in 1975 with the releases of “Magic Man” and “Crazy on You.” Their sound featured a 70’s hard yet melodic Rock sound with Ann handling most of the vocals while Nancy played most of the acoustic guitar parts. In the 80s, Nancy sang and played more electric guitar and along with lead guitarist Howard Leese had a string of hits such as “These Dreams” and “Alone.” The band has steadily toured up to the present day, occasionally taking breaks due to family issues and solo efforts by both Ann and Nancy. Nancy, along with Joan Jett are considered two of earliest influential female guitarists in Rock.
Sounds great, Nancy!
