From Top: AC/DC’s Stevie Young, Brian Johnson, Angus Young, Cliff Williams
October 1, 2020 – It appears that veteran rockers AC/DC are about create a new power age. Recently a banner was hung outside the high school that Angus Young attended as a youngster that read: “Are You Ready? SYD PWR UP.” There were some pictures (since removed) on the band’s website as well as a link named “Power Up” that enables you to submit your email address, hinting that a new AC/DC album and tour are in the works. Also, a link was posted on the band’s Facebook page showing a neon lightning bolt flashing in the familiar AC/DC style. And more recently, a 30 second video was posted of what appears to be a new song to be released by the band. Update: You can watch the full audio version of AC/DC’s “Shot in the Dark” below:
No doubt about it – that first thirty seconds contains the classic AC/DC guitar tones. Chances are it is recently deceased rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young’s Gretsch Jet Firebird and a Marshall Plexi amp. In reports earlier this year it has been rumored that Malcolm had several songs that he had written before his death that Angus wanted to use on the new album as a tribute to his brother. It also appears that singer Brian Johnson, as well as bass player Cliff Williams and drummer Phil Rudd have rejoined the band after leaving for various reasons. Williams retired after the last tour and Johnson had to skip the band’s “Rock or Bust” tour due to severe hearing loss. Rudd had legal problems that prevented him from touring and was replaced by Chris Slade. Malcolm’s place was taken by his nephew, Stevie.
In addition, you can listen to this new podcast featuring Angus and Brian as they discuss the new album.
If this video is any indication of what’s to come, 2021 could be a very good year!
